Parasite Prevention Request Form (Flea, Tick, Heartworm & Intestinal Worms)

Parasites are now a year-round problem for cats and dogs. Read on for details, our recommendations, pricing, and our online order form, and click here for more information about the main types of parasites that affect our pets.

The safest option is to treat your pet every month. Fleas are a problem year-round, with their numbers increasing over the spring and summer, and becoming worst in the fall. Ticks particularly love spring and fall, but they become active whenever the temperature rises above freezing – this winter for the first time ever, Toronto’s AVERAGE winter temperature has been above zero degrees! Heartworm is spread by mosquitos, and prevention is essential from late spring until early winter. Intestinal worms can be spread year-round by contact with other animals or their feces, contaminated dirt, or if your pet eats infected prey like rodents or bugs.

If you prefer not to use prevention year-round, the most active parasite season is March to November. Make sure that you treat every pet in your house, even if they don’t all go outside – many parasites can hitchhike inside on shoes or other pets! In particular, if you only treat some of your pets, new fleas carried inside can avoid treatment by taking refuge on the untreated pet(s) and quickly reproduce, making infestations impossible to eliminate.
