Whether it's preventive surgery or a procedure to alleviate a problem, such as an intestinal blockage or to remove bladder stones, Bloorcourt Veterinary Clinic is equipped to ensure your pet is comfortable and has a fast recovery. What is the process like for a procedure?
All surgical procedures require your pet to be given a general anesthetic which renders them unconscious while we perform the surgery. To ensure your pet's comfort and safety, a small blood sample is taken before surgery. We use this to check if your pet is healthy and strong enough to receive anesthesia. Once confirmed, your pet is given an IV (intravenous) catheter and continues receiving IV fluids during the procedure, allowing us to administer medication quickly and easily if needed. Your pet's blood pressure, heart, respiratory rate, depth of anesthesia, and the amount of oxygen in their bloodstream will all be monitored throughout the process. Once your pet is ready to be discharged, we will provide adequate pain medication to keep them pain-free during recovery.
