Nutrition Counselling

Helping you choose the best diet for your pet’s long-term health and vitality.

One of the most debated topics in veterinary medicine is nutrition. With more diets out there than ever, the myths and misconceptions continue to grow – making it very confusing to know what diet is best for your loyal companion. The team at Bloorcourt can help you sort out fact from fiction, truth from myth, and choose the best diet for your pet's long-term health and vitality. Book your nutritional consult today at 416-537-9677.

Why is nutritional counselling recommended?

Diet and nutrition are directly linked to a pet's well-being. When they aren't properly taken care of, it can lead to costly veterinarian bills and frequent visits to the veterinary clinic. Not all pets are the same, even if they are within the same breeds. Your pet is unique and requires a specialized diet tailored to their specific needs. Through nutritional counselling, you can learn the appropriate amount of food to give, different types of food available, avoid common mistakes, and most importantly , significantly extend your furry family member's life.

What is included in a nutritional consult?

A thorough examination will be performed as it is imperative to determine any underlying medical conditions. We will assess your pet's weight, overall health, current diet, and any specific nutritional needs. Depending on your pet's specific case, we can suggest the best diet for them, along with proper feeding amounts and times. Four to six weeks later, we will reweigh and adjust as needed. Since obesity can negatively impact your pet's health in much the same way it affects humans, including but not limited to an increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, and many more, we offer an effective Weight Loss Program customized just for your pet.

What types of food should my dog never eat?

As much as you want to feed your dog a treat as they intently stare at you with loving eyes during dinner, there are some foods you should never give to your dog:

  • Grapes
  • Chocolate
  • Dairy products
  • Onions and garlic
